When Color Was New

Julie Saul Gallery

July 7th – September 6th 2008

Just go see this tiny remarkable show, I can’t express how much I enjoyed this smart look at the on going moment in the beginnings of color photography. Each photograph is from around the 1970’s by notable photographers like Levitt, Eggleston, and Evans. A couple of my favorite photographs were included in this one exhibit, i.e.: The Hug, The Chair/La Chaise, and this photo from Joel Meyerowitz:

I stayed in here for a while marveling at the work. For example the above image just has so many pieces of it that are great: the couple descending into the smokey street, the two people on the right with a shadow of another person trailing behind each of their backs, the light coming into the scene and giving it life…it’s all so perfect.
