What I’m Reading
I’m loving books so much these days that I’ve just been browsing the library for books and pulling out whatever I feel like reading. I’m SUPER excited that I’ve finally gotten around to reading some Pasolini & Gramsci.

The Conspiracy of Art, Jean Baudrillard
from the amazing Paulo Coelho
Nobody believes
Legend has it that right after his Enlightenment, Buddha decided to go for a walk in the country. On the way he came upon a farmer, who was impressed at the light shining from the master.
“My friend, who are you?” asked the farmer. “Because I have the feeling that I am standing before an angel, or a God.”
“I am nothing of the sort,” answered Buddha.
“Maybe you’re a powerful sorcerer?”
“Not that either.”
“So, what makes you so different from the others that even a simple peasant like me notices it?”
“I am just someone who has awoken to life. That’s all. But I tell everyone that, and nobody believes me.”

Biennale n’ Beyond

I loved this piece so much because everyone that would see it from the outside would try to guess exactly who that woman was. Obviously she must be important if she was on the side of a building. If you made it to the exhibit the piece above is shown. Stating that it’s just another Casual Passer-By from Braco Dimitrijevic…and I loved being in on the secret.
Here’s some snaps of art that I experienced along the way. Later better than never right? (more…)
Free Tacos

This Thursday, hopefully I will be able to make it to the High Line for the fourth installment of Specials. It’s a collaboration between Lisa Sigal and (my professor) Paul Ramirez Jonas in which the bridge between art, social function, and performance are blurred even more as the artists use a vendor cart to bring free tacos to the people (yes) and showcase art (double yes!). This will be going on at the High Line Thursday October 1 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm featuring Janine Antoni, Byron Kim, Simon Leung, Glenn Ligon, Suzanne McClelland, Kiki Smith, and Fred Wilson, all artists who exhibited together in the 1993 Whitney Biennial. Goodbye Summer
This summer I spent most of my time in my honorary hometown Venice, Italy. I had such a great time and hopefully will be going back again next summer for school *crosses fingers*. Here’s some of my photos from my visit…I also visited Verona, Padua, Koper (Slovenia), and Rijeka (Croatia).

Cemetario
Isola di San Michele in Venice is dedicated to the city’s dead. I had such a peaceful time there from observing the different types of grave stones to being spooked out then enchanted by these little lizards that would pop up out of nowhere. Some people visit the cemetery to visit some of the more famous residents such as Ezra Pound and would drop off any gift they could even if it was a rock from the floor. I was intrigued by the colorful sticks on Helenio Herrera’s spot (a few pics down). Later I found out that these were actually glasses pieces from Murano used to create beads and such.
