inside out gallery show

This past Friday, a 2 week pop up “The Outsiders,”opened on the corner of Houston & Bowery from Steve Lazarides of Lazarides Gallery in London (yes he represents Banksy). Pictured above is a piece by none other than Space Invader titled, “Rubiks James Bond Girl” 2008. This reminds me of an article I ready a couple of weeks ago, of a similar show in Brazil that resulted in the pixadores vandalizing the interior of an exhibit dedicated to street art, claiming that it totally went againts the purpose of it.
to:Night
to:Night, an exhibition that highlights contemporary artists’ representations of the night just opened at the Hunter College art galleries with a grande spectacle/fiasco including popcorn machines, donors, and bands. The show spans two locations, but if you have to make a choice, the exhibit at the MFA building was definitely the more interesting of the two with very interesting takes on the use of light in contemporary art. A pitch black room filled with four photos of the woods at night that are only slightly illuminated, exactly as the real experience itself truly transformed the idea of a photo as a flat object…a few rooms over this idea is seen again in cut out paper trees with a project that gives them texture and life.

I thought the presentation of this installation was extremely considered. I hadn’t been a fan of the paintings inside the dome structure he created, however once walking through the tunnel, everything comes together.
